Telugu Wedding Photography in Chennai | Pugaippadam
Telugu weddings share a great deal with Tamil ceremonies and differ in exactly the places that matter to a photographer — the jeelakarra bellam and the talambralu are unlike anything in a Tamil muhurtham.

Pellikuthuru and Pellikoduku
The ceremonies preparing the bride and groom, usually the day before. Turmeric, oil, family gathered close in a small room. Warm, intimate and often the most affectionate photographs of the whole wedding.
Snathakam and Kashi Yatra
The groom in a plain dhoti and a sacred thread, then the mock departure for Kashi with an umbrella and a stick, talked out of it by the bride's brother or father. Same theatre as the Tamil version and the same rule applies — the photograph is the family laughing, not the groom walking.
Jeelakarra Bellam
The moment that defines a Telugu wedding. The couple place a paste of cumin and jaggery on each other's heads while separated by a curtain, and the curtain drops at the auspicious moment for their first look at each other.
Photographically this is the hardest thing in the ceremony, because the curtain drop happens once, fast, and the shot is the pair of faces in the half second after. We put one photographer in a fixed position on the couple through the curtain drop and nothing else, because attempting to cover it while also moving is how it gets missed.
Madhuparkam and Kanyadanam
The white cotton sarees with red borders, the gifting, the giving away. Formal, seated, and where the parents' faces carry everything.
Mangalsutra and Talambralu
The mangalsutra is tied with three knots, and then talambralu — the couple pouring rice mixed with turmeric and pearls over each other's heads, repeatedly, competitively, until everyone is laughing and covered. It is chaotic, it is joyful and it produces the loosest, best candid frames of the day. It also destroys equipment if you are careless, so we work it with covered bodies and from angles that keep the lens out of the fall.
Telugu families in Tamil Nadu
A great many Telugu-speaking families have lived in Chennai and northern Tamil Nadu for generations, and their weddings frequently blend both traditions — a Telugu ritual sequence at a Chennai kalyana mandapam, with Tamil elements the family has absorbed along the way.
We do not assume either way. During pre-production we ask you to walk us through your specific order, because the blend is different in every family and getting it wrong means standing in the wrong place.
How we crew this function
Two photographers plus a cinematographer for the muhurtham, with one photographer assigned to a fixed position for the jeelakarra bellam curtain drop. Talambralu is covered by both photographers with weather-covered bodies.
What you get
- Fully edited high-resolution gallery, culled properly rather than dumped
- Cinematic film and feature cut where the package includes film
- Teaser reel usually inside 72 hours
- One colour grade across stills and video, applied by one person
- Full delivery within 30 days of your last function — a clause in the agreement, not a promise on a website
Cost and booking
Every quote is built from your specific wedding rather than picked off a rate card. What sits inside each tier, what is included as standard and what is quoted separately are all set out on the pricing page, and there is a wider market guide to Chennai wedding photography costs if you want to understand what drives price across the city before you talk to anyone.
We also run DJ and sound, drone, LED wall, stage decoration, cold sparklers, the 360 booth and the photo fridge magnet booth in-house. Every one of these is delivered by our own crew on our own equipment. Nothing is sub-hired, so the standard does not change from one part of the day to the next.
Peak season runs November to February and popular dates go three to six months ahead. WhatsApp +91 98849 60870 with your date and we will answer the same day.
Telugu Wedding Photography — FAQs
What is the jeelakarra bellam and why is it hard to photograph?
The couple place a cumin-and-jaggery paste on each other's heads while separated by a curtain, and the curtain drops for their first look at each other. The photograph is the pair of faces in the half second after it drops — it happens once, fast, and cannot be repeated. We assign one photographer to nothing but that shot from a fixed position.
Do you cover talambralu?
Yes, and it produces the best candid frames of a Telugu wedding — the couple pouring turmeric rice over each other until everyone is laughing. We shoot it with covered bodies and from angles that keep the lens out of the fall, because it is genuinely hard on equipment.
We are a Telugu family settled in Chennai and our wedding blends both traditions. Is that a problem?
Not at all, and it is very common in Chennai and northern Tamil Nadu. What we do is ask you to walk us through your specific ritual order during pre-production rather than assuming, because the blend differs in every family.
How soon will we get our photographs and film?
Full gallery and cinematic film within 30 days of your last function, written into the agreement. A teaser reel usually reaches you within 72 hours.
How much does this coverage cost?
Every quote is built from your specific wedding — function count, crew size per function, travel and any event production you add. Send your date and function list and you will have a firm itemised figure the same day.
Do you travel outside Chennai for this?
Yes, all 38 districts of Tamil Nadu plus destination weddings. Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram are treated as local. Other districts carry a visible travel and accommodation line quoted before you pay any advance.
