Sangeet Photography in Chennai | Pugaippadam
A sangeet is the only wedding function that is genuinely a show. Family performances are rehearsed for weeks and then covered by one photographer standing at the back, which is how they end up looking like phone footage.

Your cousins have rehearsed for a month. If nobody planned the coverage, what you get is a wide shot from the back of the hall with the stage blown out and the faces indistinct.
What it actually needs:
- A performance running order in advance. Who is on, in what order, roughly how long. Send it a week ahead and we assign positions per act instead of guessing.
- Two camera positions minimum — one wide and locked for the full act, one close and moving for faces and detail. Films cut from a single angle look like recordings.
- Stage lighting that a camera can use. Coloured wash on its own kills skin tones. We add a front key so faces are readable, which also means the performers can actually be recognised in the footage.
- Coverage of the audience. The parents watching their children perform is frequently the best photograph of the night and it is behind the photographer if nobody thought about it.
The music is the event, so the cues matter
Sangeet performances live and die on their tracks. Sending the DJ a list of songs on the night and hoping is how performances start late, cut off early, or run over a fade nobody prepared.
Send the performance list and the tracks a week ahead and we prepare the edits, the fades and the cue order properly. This single step prevents most sangeet disasters, and it is far easier when the DJ and the camera team are the same organisation working from one running order.
After the performances
The floor opens and the sangeet becomes the loosest function of the whole wedding — better candid material than the reception because nobody is queuing and nobody is being formal. This is where the haze level matters: a DJ running heavy haze all evening softens every photograph. We keep it low while the cameras are working the floor and open it up later.
Where the sangeet sits
Usually the evening before the muhurtham, often on the same day as the haldi or mehendi. Where two functions share a day we crew for both together, which costs you less than booking them as separate events.
How we crew this function
Two photographers with assigned positions per performance, plus a cinematographer running a locked wide angle. We add a front key light to the stage so performers are recognisable under coloured wash.
What you get
- Fully edited high-resolution gallery, culled properly rather than dumped
- Cinematic film and feature cut where the package includes film
- Teaser reel usually inside 72 hours
- One colour grade across stills and video, applied by one person
- Full delivery within 30 days of your last function — a clause in the agreement, not a promise on a website
Cost and booking
Every quote is built from your specific wedding rather than picked off a rate card. What sits inside each tier, what is included as standard and what is quoted separately are all set out on the pricing page, and there is a wider market guide to Chennai wedding photography costs if you want to understand what drives price across the city before you talk to anyone.
We also run DJ and sound, drone, LED wall, stage decoration, cold sparklers, the 360 booth and the photo fridge magnet booth in-house. Every one of these is delivered by our own crew on our own equipment. Nothing is sub-hired, so the standard does not change from one part of the day to the next.
Peak season runs November to February and popular dates go three to six months ahead. WhatsApp +91 98849 60870 with your date and we will answer the same day.
Sangeet Photography — FAQs
How should we prepare our sangeet performances for the photographers?
Send the performance running order and the tracks a week ahead — who is on, in what order, roughly how long. We then assign camera positions per act instead of guessing, and the DJ prepares the edits and fades properly rather than improvising on the night. This one step prevents most sangeet problems.
Why do sangeet performance videos usually look poor?
Because they are shot from one position at the back of the hall with the stage blown out. Performances need two angles minimum — one wide and locked for the full act, one close and moving for faces — plus a front key light so skin tones are readable under coloured stage wash.
Will the DJ's haze machine affect the photographs?
Heavy haze softens every photograph and washes out contrast. We keep it low while the cameras are working the floor and open it up afterwards. That coordination only happens when the DJ and camera team are the same organisation or are talking to each other.
How soon will we get our photographs and film?
Full gallery and cinematic film within 30 days of your last function, written into the agreement. A teaser reel usually reaches you within 72 hours.
How much does this coverage cost?
Every quote is built from your specific wedding — function count, crew size per function, travel and any event production you add. Send your date and function list and you will have a firm itemised figure the same day.
Do you travel outside Chennai for this?
Yes, all 38 districts of Tamil Nadu plus destination weddings. Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram are treated as local. Other districts carry a visible travel and accommodation line quoted before you pay any advance.
