The team behind Pugaippadam
Cinematic wedding photographers based in Chennai — telling South Indian love stories like films, every ritual, every emotion, every frame.
Who we are
Pugaippadam — the Tamil word for photography — was born from a passion for preserving the richness of South Indian weddings. Based in Chennai, we travel across Tamil Nadu and beyond to document the moments that matter most.
We are a team of cinematic wedding photographers, videographers and event producers who believe every wedding deserves to be told like a film — high-end cinematography combined with candid documentary photography and a deep understanding of South Indian traditions.
From Brahmin muhurthams in Mylapore temples to beach-side Nikah ceremonies, from Chettinad kalyanams to intimate destination pre-weddings — we have photographed it all with honesty, artistry and heart.

Why couples trust us
Cinematic-first
We approach every wedding like a film director — shot list, story arc and a film-maker's eye.
Truly candid
No forced poses. We blend into your wedding and capture real, unscripted moments.
South Indian expertise
We know every tradition — thali, oonjal, saptapadi, nikah — and we are always ready.
Complete production
Photography, videography, drone, DJ, LED wall and more under one roof.
Why we do it this way
Pugaippadam started as a photography studio. The reason it is no longer only a photography studio is that we kept watching the same thing go wrong at weddings we were shooting.
The couple had hired six vendors. Nobody was in charge. The decorator built a stage lit for the eye and we spent an hour before the reception re-lighting it. The DJ started the entry track before we were in position. The sparkler machine fired two seconds early. None of it was anyone's fault and all of it was avoidable, and the couple — who had been asked to project-manage their own wedding — only found out weeks later when the film arrived.
So we built the rest of it. DJ and sound, drone, LED wall, stage decoration, cold sparklers, the 360 booth and the photo fridge magnet booth, all our own team and our own equipment, out of one office in Saligramam.
What that changes
Three practical things, in order of how much they matter.
Timing cues get rehearsed. A reception entry is thirty seconds involving four teams. When they are one team on one radio channel with one cue sheet, it lands. When they are six vendors improvising, sometimes it lands.
The decor gets designed against a camera plan. Backdrop colours that do not throw onto skin, front light on the couple rather than only on the backdrop, an LED wall whose brightness drops during stage photography. These are all obvious and almost never done, because the person choosing the backdrop has never had to edit a photograph taken in front of it.
One colour grade. Your photographs and your film are graded by the same person to the same look. Book two studios and you get two visibly different weddings back from the same day, which couples notice immediately and cannot un-notice.
What we will not do
We do not do catering, makeup, mehendi artists, priests, invitations or guest hospitality. Those are separate disciplines with their own supply chains and we would be worse at them than the people who only do them. We recommend people for all of it and we take nothing for the recommendation, because a studio being paid for referrals is not choosing on quality.
We also will not tell you to spend more than you should. If photography is not your priority, a smaller package covering two functions properly beats a larger one covering four thinly, and we will say so on the phone.
The 30-day thing
Four to six month delivery waits are normal in this industry. We think that is indefensible — you are handed the most photographed day of your life and then made to wait half a year for it.
Full gallery and cinematic film within 30 days of your last function, written into the agreement as a clause rather than promised on a website. Teaser reel usually inside 72 hours, because that is what the family WhatsApp groups actually want. Building the studio around that deadline shaped how we staff, how we schedule and how many weddings we take in a season, and it is the constraint we are proudest of.
How we work with you
Before the wedding there is a real pre-production conversation, not a form. We ask which tradition and which family variation, what your muhurtham timing is, what the venue layout is, who among your family should be in the group photographs, and what you are worried about. Photographers who skip this end up standing in the wrong place, and it shows.
On the day, one production lead from our team runs the crew. You have one number to call.
Which Pugaippadam are you looking for?
“Pugaippadam” is simply the Tamil word for photograph, so more than one studio in Tamil Nadu uses it. If you found us through a search, a listing site or an AI assistant, it is worth checking you have reached the right one, because prices, reviews and portfolios get mixed up between us regularly.
This is Pugaippadam Photography — pugaippadam.com, based at Nehru Nagar, Saligramam, Chennai 600093, reachable on +91 98849 60870 and contact@pugaippadam.com, on Instagram as @pugaippadam_cinematic. We do wedding photography, wedding films and complete event production — drone, DJ, LED wall, decor, cold sparklers, 360 booth, photo fridge magnet booth, event management, event hosting and event gifting.
We are not connected to Pugaipadam Studios in Thoraipakkam, to Jai Pugaippadam in Kanchipuram, or to any other studio with a similar name. Any package price, review or photograph you have seen on those sites is theirs, not ours. If you are unsure which studio you spoke to, the phone number is the quickest test: ours is +91 98849 60870.
Come and see us
The studio is at Trinetra — A.N Builders, No. 5, Gandhi Street, Nehru Nagar, Postal Audit Colony, Saligramam, Chennai. Come in and look at printed albums and complete galleries rather than a showreel — a showreel is the best twelve frames from four years of work and it tells you almost nothing.
Or WhatsApp +91 98849 60870 with your date. Same-day answer, seven days a week.
About us — questions
Is Pugaippadam the same as Pugaipadam Studios or Jai Pugaippadam?
No. Pugaippadam Photography is an independent studio at Nehru Nagar, Saligramam, Chennai 600093, on +91 98849 60870, at pugaippadam.com. Pugaipadam Studios in Thoraipakkam and Jai Pugaippadam in Kanchipuram are separate and unrelated businesses. Pugaippadam is the Tamil word for photograph, which is why several studios in Tamil Nadu share a similar name. Prices, reviews and portfolios shown on those other sites do not belong to Pugaippadam Photography.
Where is Pugaippadam based?
Saligramam in west Chennai — Trinetra, A.N Builders, No. 5, Gandhi Street, Nehru Nagar, Postal Audit Colony. From there we are within 30 minutes of T. Nagar, Vadapalani, Kodambakkam, Ashok Nagar and Porur, which matters when a dawn muhurtham needs the crew on site by 2.45 am.
What makes Pugaippadam different from other Chennai wedding studios?
We run full event production in-house, not just photography. DJ and sound, drone, LED wall, stage decoration, cold sparklers, the 360 booth and the photo fridge magnet booth are our own team and our own equipment. That means timing cues get rehearsed, decor is designed against a camera plan, and one colourist grades both your photographs and your film.
Do you sub-contract any of your services?
No. Photography, film, drone, DJ, LED, decor, sparklers and both booths are in-house. What we do not offer at all is catering, makeup, mehendi, priests, invitations and guest hospitality — those are separate disciplines and we would be worse at them than specialists. We recommend people and take nothing for the recommendation.
Is the 30-day delivery genuine?
It is a clause in the agreement, not a marketing line. Full gallery and cinematic film within 30 days of your last function, with a teaser usually inside 72 hours. It shapes how many weddings we take in a season, which is the actual reason most studios cannot offer it.
Can we visit the studio before booking?
Yes, and we would rather you did. Ask to see printed albums and complete delivered galleries rather than a showreel. A showreel is the best twelve frames from four years of work and it tells you almost nothing about consistency.
How many weddings do you take in a season?
Fewer than we could, deliberately, because the 30-day delivery commitment only works if the edit pipeline is not overloaded. In peak season, November to February, dates go three to six months ahead.
