The difference between a reception that flows and one that stalls is almost always the person holding the microphone.
You have seen the version that goes wrong. Six hundred guests, a stage queue that has stopped moving, an anchor reading names off a list in a voice that suggests they would rather be elsewhere, and an aunt taking the microphone to sing because nobody told her not to. The photographs from that reception all look the same: people waiting.
A good host is not a formality. They control the pace of the evening, keep the stage queue moving, know when to stretch a segment because the couple are enjoying themselves and when to cut one because the elders are tired. They also make the room laugh without embarrassing anybody, which is a genuine skill and rarer than it sounds.
What hosting covers
- Reception and stage management. Introductions, the couple's entry, family felicitations, the cake or garland moment, and a stage queue that keeps moving without anyone feeling rushed.
- Sangeet and mehendi evenings. Running order for performances, cueing the DJ, keeping the energy up between acts, and filling the gap when the cousins' dance is not quite ready.
- Engagement and nichayathartham. A lighter touch, usually with more of the ritual explained for guests who have travelled from other communities.
- Games and segments. Written for your family, not pulled off a standard list. We ask about how the couple met, who in the family will happily take a joke, and who absolutely will not.
- Corporate and private events. Product launches, annual days, award nights, milestone birthdays and anniversaries.
Bilingual, properly
Tamil and English in the same breath, switching with the room rather than translating everything twice and doubling the runtime. That matters at a Chennai reception where the groom's side is from Coimbatore, the bride's colleagues are from Bangalore and the grandparents want the important parts in Tamil. Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi hosting can be arranged on request.
What happens before the evening
A call with the couple and usually one parent, roughly two weeks ahead. We collect the names and the correct pronunciation of every person going on stage, the family sensitivities, the running order and anything that must not be mentioned. The script is written from that call and shared with you before the day. Nothing is improvised at your expense.
On the evening, the host arrives before the guests, walks the stage with the sound and lighting crew, and tests the microphone in the actual room rather than assuming.
Why this works better with the same team
The host, the DJ, the LED wall operator and the lead photographer are in one team on one radio channel. The entry cue happens when the camera is in position and the sparklers fire on the word rather than four seconds after it. When those four people work for four different companies, that coordination is a hope rather than a plan.
Everything is delivered by our own crew on our own equipment. Nothing is sub-hired, so the standard does not change from one part of the day to the next.
Frequently asked questions
Can we book only the anchor, without photography?
Yes. Hosting is available on its own anywhere in Tamil Nadu. It works better alongside our DJ, LED wall and camera team because everyone shares one cue sheet, but it is not a condition.
Will the host speak Tamil or English?
Both, switching with the room rather than translating everything twice. We match the balance to your guest list — more Tamil for a family-heavy muhurtham, more English for a reception full of colleagues. Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi can be arranged with notice.
Do you write the script or do we?
We write it from a call with the couple and usually one parent, then share it with you before the day so you can cut anything you are not comfortable with. Nothing goes on the microphone that you have not seen.
How long before the event do you need to know the details?
Two weeks is comfortable. We need the names and pronunciations for everyone going on stage, the running order and the family sensitivities. We have worked with less notice, but the script gets thinner.
Can you handle a reception with more than 800 guests?
Yes. Large receptions are mostly about queue management — keeping the stage line moving so the last guest is not standing for ninety minutes. That is a rhythm the host sets, working with the photography team so nobody is held up for a retake.
Do you host corporate events as well as weddings?
Yes. Product launches, annual days, award nights and conferences, in Chennai and across Tamil Nadu. The preparation is the same: names, running order, and a script you approve first.
