Where it actually fails
A reception entry is about thirty seconds and involves four teams: the DJ starting the track, the sparkler machine firing, the drone or camera in position, and the LED wall switching content. When those are four separate companies who met that afternoon, the entry is improvised. Sometimes it lands. Often the sparklers fire before the couple are through the door, or the track starts while the camera team is still moving.
It is nobody's fault, exactly. Nobody was ever in charge.
DJ and sound
A Chennai wedding crowd spans four generations, and a DJ who only plays to the twenty-somethings empties the room. Ask whether they have played Tamil weddings specifically, whether they own their equipment, and whether they can provide an audio feed to the video team — that last one is what makes your film's reception audio usable. LED wall
A live feed to the back of a 900-guest hall genuinely helps — guests at the back see nothing otherwise. It also floods the stage with coloured light, which affects photographs. The wall should be dimmable and somebody should be dimming it during stage portraits. More on LED and VFX.
Drone
Excellent for baraat arrivals, temple exteriors and beach venues. Close to useless indoors. Ask two questions: is the operator licensed, and has airspace permission been checked for this venue? Many Chennai venues sit under approach paths where drone flight is restricted, and finding out on the day is too late. More on drone.
Stage decoration
Decor is usually designed for the eye and then photographed as an afterthought. Backdrop colours throw onto skin, uplighting from below is unflattering to everyone, and a stage lit only from behind leaves the couple in silhouette. Decor designed against the camera plan photographs better and costs no more. More on decoration.
Cold sparklers
Genuine cold pyro is indoor-safe, produces no heat and very little smoke. There are cheaper machines using hotter compositions that are not safe indoors and produce smoke that ruins the next twenty minutes of photographs. Ask directly whether it is genuine cold pyro, and check the venue permits it. More.
Guest booths
A reception has a long stage queue and guests with nothing to do. That is what booths solve.
- Photo fridge magnet booth — guests walk away with a printed magnet of themselves in about forty seconds. It doubles as the return gift and survives on their fridge for years.
- 360 booth — slow-motion video sent to the guest's phone before they leave the hall.
Both need placement thought: near the queue, not blocking it, and away from the sound desk.
What to ask any production vendor
- Is this your own equipment or sub-hired?
- Are the operators your staff?
- Who is calling the cues on the day, and on what channel?
- Have you worked at this venue before?
- What is the power requirement and does the venue have it?
- What is the backup if a unit fails mid-event?
Questions people ask
Why do reception entries go wrong so often?
Because the entry is about thirty seconds involving four teams — DJ, sparklers, cameras and the LED wall — and when those are four separate companies there is no shared cue sheet. Somebody has to be calling it on one channel, and usually nobody is.
Should we book event production with our photographer?
It solves the coordination problem, because the cues are called by people who work together and the decor gets designed against the camera plan. It is not the only way to do it — but if you book separately, appoint one person to own the run sheet.
Do we need an LED wall?
For halls above roughly 500 guests, yes — people at the back see nothing otherwise. Make sure it is dimmable and that someone dims it during stage photographs, because a bright wall behind the couple throws colour onto skin.
Is a drone worth it?
At outdoor venues, temple exteriors and beach weddings, very much. Indoors, almost never. Ask whether the operator is licensed and whether airspace permission has been checked for your specific venue, because several Chennai venues sit under restricted approach paths.

What is a photo magnet booth?
Guests pose and walk away about forty seconds later holding a printed fridge magnet of themselves carrying your names and date. It solves the reception queue problem and doubles as the return gift, which is why it tends to be kept rather than left on the chair.
What is the difference between a 360 booth and a magnet booth?
The 360 booth produces a slow-motion video sent to the guest's phone before they leave. The magnet booth produces a physical object they take home. Many receptions have both, at opposite ends of the hall, because they serve different guests.
How should a DJ handle a Tamil wedding crowd?
By reading a room that spans four generations. A DJ playing only to the twenty-somethings empties the floor of everyone else. Ask specifically whether they have played Tamil weddings, and whether they can give an audio feed to the video team — that is what makes the reception audio in your film usable.

Can we book event production without photography?
Yes, every service is available on its own across Chennai and Tamil Nadu. Most families who take it also have us on the cameras, because one team that has already walked the venue is simpler than briefing a stranger.
What power does event production need?
More than most venues assume, particularly with an LED wall and full sound. Ask the vendor for the load in kilowatts and confirm with the venue, including whether generator backup exists. This is the most common day-of failure at large receptions.
Where should booths be placed at a reception?
Near the stage queue so waiting guests can use them, but not blocking the flow, and away from the sound desk. Bad placement is why booths sometimes go unused at otherwise busy receptions.
