Wedding Photography in Kerala
Backwaters, beaches and temple-town ceremonies. Photography, film and event production from one Chennai team.
THE ART OF REMEMBERINGBackwater and temple weddings in Kerala
Kerala weddings are a natural extension of our work — we already photograph Malayali weddings in Tamil Nadu, and many Chennai families marry in Kerala to be close to one side of the family. Destination weddings cluster around the backwaters of Alleppey and Kumarakom, the cliffs and beaches of Varkala and Kovalam, and Kochi's heritage hotels.
A Malayali ceremony is short and unforgiving — the thaali and pudavakodukkal are often over in under twenty minutes, with no second chance to reposition. We place photographers before the ceremony begins, and agree positions with the family and the venue in advance. Temple weddings in particular often restrict where photographers can stand.
The backwaters bring their own logistics: houseboats and lakeside lawns are beautiful but cramped for crew and equipment, and Kerala's long monsoon shapes the calendar. Travel and accommodation are quoted as a visible line, and the team arrives in advance.
Planning a Kerala wedding
- ✓ Best season: November to March. Kerala's southwest monsoon (June–September) is long and heavy.
- ✓ Ceremony: Malayali ceremonies are short — photographers are placed before it starts.
- ✓ Venues: Houseboats and lake lawns are beautiful but tight for crew; plan positions in advance.
- ✓ Temples: Temple weddings often restrict photographer positions — confirm rules early.
Weddings in Kerala
Do you photograph destination weddings in Kerala?
Yes. Pugaippadam travels to Kerala for destination weddings, with travel and accommodation quoted as a separate visible line, and photographs Malayali weddings in Tamil Nadu regularly.
How long is a Malayali wedding ceremony?
Often under twenty minutes for the thaali and pudavakodukkal, which makes it the shortest of the South Indian ceremonies. Photographers must already be in position before it begins.
What is the best season for a Kerala backwater wedding?
November to March. Kerala's southwest monsoon from June to September is long and heavy, so outdoor and boat-based plans are risky then.
Can you photograph a temple wedding in Kerala?
Yes, within each temple's rules. Many temples restrict where photographers can stand, so we confirm the rules with the family and temple authorities beforehand.
