Albums, Image Counts and How Long It Should Take
Four to six month waits have become normal in this industry. They should not be, and understanding why they happen tells you a lot about how a studio is run.

The most common complaint about wedding photography in Tamil Nadu is not quality. It is waiting. Families are handed the most photographed day of their lives and then wait half a year to see it, by which point the emotion has faded and the album arrives as an artefact rather than a memory.
Why studios take four to six months
Not laziness, usually. It is a scheduling problem. A studio that books more weddings than its edit pipeline can process builds a queue, and in peak season that queue only grows. Your wedding sits behind every wedding booked before it.
Which means delivery speed is really a question about how many weddings a studio takes. A studio that genuinely delivers in thirty days is either turning work away or running a much larger edit team, and it is fair to ask which.
What you should expect, and when
- Teaser reel — within 72 hours. Thirty to sixty seconds for the family WhatsApp groups, while people still want it.
- Full edited gallery — within 30 days of your last function, in our contract. Industry norm is four to eight weeks at best, frequently much longer.
- Cinematic film — alongside the gallery.
- Printed album — after your approval. Design first, you approve the layout, then it goes to print. Binding is a separate production step and adds a few weeks.
How many photographs is the right number
More is not better. A single-function wedding producing 300 to 500 carefully culled and edited images is a better deliverable than 2,000 unculled frames where you do the selecting. Culling is skilled work and studios that hand over everything are usually skipping it.
Ask whether the number quoted is a floor or a cap, and whether it is edited images or raw frames. Those are very different promises.
Albums, in plain terms
- Lay-flat means the spread opens completely flat with no gutter cutting through the middle of a photograph. It is more expensive and much better for full-spread images.
- A spread is two pages. When a studio quotes "30 sheets" check whether that means 30 or 60 pages.
- Cover materials — leatherette, fabric, wood, acrylic — change the price considerably.
- Parent albums are smaller duplicates, usually ordered at the same time because a reprint later costs more.
What to check before you sign
- Delivery time as a number of days, written into the agreement
- Whether the image count is a floor or a cap
- How many revision rounds are included, and what a further one costs
- Album page count and the cost per additional spread
- Whether you get raw files, and whether you actually want them
- How long the online gallery stays live
- How long they keep backups, and whether there are two copies
That last one is the one nobody asks. Ask it.
Questions people ask
How long should wedding photos take to arrive?
Industry practice in Tamil Nadu is four to eight weeks for a full gallery, and in peak season frequently four to six months. We deliver within 30 days of your last function, written into the agreement as a clause rather than a promise, with a teaser reel usually inside 72 hours.
Why do some studios take six months?
Because they book more weddings than their editing pipeline can process, so a queue builds through peak season and your wedding sits behind every one booked before it. It is a scheduling decision, which is why asking how many weddings a studio takes in a season tells you more than asking about delivery.
How many edited photographs should we get?
For a single function, 300 to 500 carefully culled images is a good deliverable. For a full multi-function wedding, 600 to 1,000. More is not better — 2,000 unculled frames means you are doing the selecting, which is skilled work you are paying the studio to do.
What is the difference between edited images and raw files?
Edited images have been culled, colour graded and retouched. Raw files are every frame the camera recorded, unprocessed and often unflattering. Most families who ask for raws never look at them. If you want them, agree it upfront — many studios do not release them at all.
What is a lay-flat album?
One where the spread opens completely flat, so a photograph across two pages is not cut through the middle by the binding. It costs more and is significantly better for full-spread images. Standard binding is fine for albums built around single-page photographs.
How many pages should a wedding album have?
Depends on how many functions it covers, but check the unit carefully. Studios often quote in sheets rather than pages, and a sheet is two pages. Thirty sheets and thirty pages are very different books at very different prices.
When do we see the album before it is printed?
You should approve the full design before anything goes to print. We design the layout, send it to you, take your changes, and only then print. Any studio printing without your approval is taking a risk with your money.
Do you provide albums for parents too?
Yes. Parent albums are smaller duplicates of the main book, and it is much cheaper to order them at the same time than to reprint later, because the design work is already done.
How long does the online gallery stay available?
Ask this of any studio, because policies vary and galleries do get taken down. Download everything you want to keep as soon as you receive it, and store it somewhere other than one phone.
How long do photographers keep backups?
This is the question almost nobody asks and it matters more than most. Ask whether they hold two independent copies and for how long. Single-copy storage on one drive is a genuine risk to your wedding photographs and it is more common than you would like.
Can we get a same-day edit shown at the reception?
Yes, and it is very effective on an LED wall during the reception. It needs an extra editor on site through the day, so it is quoted as a separate line. Decide early because it changes how the day is crewed.
How many revisions are included?
We include two rounds. Ask any studio what a third costs before you sign, because that is where disagreements usually happen — after delivery, when there is no agreed number.
